Just another beautiful Friday with the same lecturer, Mr. Helmi. This week’s lecture was about video shooting, video transfer, video design, steps to create mobile tags, and how to implement what we have learned in our future teaching. Notes for this lecture could be found here.
For the first part of the lecture, we were taught about the production stage. In this stage, we were taught about the shot framing. Shot framing depends on subject’s position in the video shot. This position will picture different meaning and messages. Shot framing also depends on the field of view (FOV). As what we have learned, there are three types of FOV which consists of (i) the closest : close-up, (ii) the middle : middle shot, (iii) the widest : wide shot/long shot. Examples of these FOV could be found here.
Apart from that, we were also taught about the Rule of Thirds. Rule of Thirds is when subject is on 1/3 or 2/3 on a picture either it is from above/below or left/right.
The second part of production stage is the video shot angle. The video shot angle consists of three types of angle which are normal angle, high angle and low angle. Examples of these video shot angles can be found here.
The third part of production stage is the video camera movements. We were taught that there are five types of movements that we can use while shooting a video. They are zoom, pan, tilt, dolly, and truck.
- Zoom : Out and in
- Pan : Right and left (Photographer is static)
- Tilt : Up and down (Photographer is static)
- Dolly : In and out (Photographer moves)
- Truck : Left and right (Photographer moves)
Then we moved on to the next part which was the post production stage. For this stage, we learned about the video and audio editing. It is about arranging the video shot in a proper sequence. We can arrange, add, change, cut and delete the video in whatever way that we want. Apart from that, we can also apply video effects on the video such as to filter and color correction, as well as to add the video transition.
For the final part of the lecture before our mid semester break, we were taught about ways to implement what we have learned in our future teaching. There are two major ways of this implementation – technology and tools. Below are the ways and their reasons for implementing them in teaching :
1. Technology
Video
- To assist students who need visualization in learning
Mobile blog
- Reflection of own teaching
- Reflection of community of teachers
- Reflection of students’ learning
Mobile Augmented Reality
- To show how virtual info can be mixed with the real world.
Mobile Tags
- For outside learning : marketing and entrepreneurship
2. Tools
Scripts and storyboards
- Sequence and events
- How to plan
Paper prototyping
- How to plan
- Visualize their design and output
- Collaboration
- Share ideas
User Innovation Management Tool
- Needs and requirements for teaching
- To foresee what students expect from the lesson
For the tutorial part, we were taught about how to create mobile tags. To create mobile tags, we were introduced to a new website which is the QR-Code Generator. I have create one for my own wordpress! You may want to try to scan on it.
To scan it, you must download the mobile tag scanner on your handheld devices. This mobile tag has been widely used in businesses as a replacement for printed tickets, to promote businesses on brochure etc.
It was really worth it to attend the class before mid semester break. We have learned so many new interesting things in this course. And I will slowly try to improve techniques in shooting video in future, as well as taking pictures!
Till then, goodbye! May everyone enjoy their mid semester break. B-)
